Thales Academy, a college preparatory network of K-12 independent schools based in North Carolina, is expanding its campus in the Flowers Plantation award-winning, master-planned community near Clayton, NC. The expansion will include a new junior high/high school building and a standalone gymnatorium building. Construction is underway and the new buildings are slated to open for the 2024-2025 school year. This will be Thales Academy’s largest campus to date among its growing network of schools, which currently includes thirteen campuses in North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia, instructing over 6,000 students.
Thales Academy at Flowers Plantation is Thales Academy’s first campus in Johnston County and opened for its inaugural school year this past fall thanks to a generous 19.18-acre land donation from Flowers Plantation. Currently serving grades Pre-K through 7th grade, the campus is adding 8th grade for the 2023-2024 school year and will continue to add grades through twelfth grade in the future contingent on adequate interest and enrollment for staffing.
“I am thrilled at the growth we are experiencing at our Thales Academy at Flowers Plantation campus,” says Bob Luddy, Founder and Chairman of Thales Academy. “It is an honor to bring Thales Academy’s high quality, affordable education model to families in Johnston County, and I am grateful we are able to expand at this campus with additional buildings and amenities to accommodate more students and provide a superior learning environment.”
“We have had record demand for this campus in its first year,” says Allison Combs, Admissions Director. “We can’t wait to be able to serve more students and provide additional grades with this exciting expansion at Thales Academy at Flowers Plantation.”

The new construction will include a second building of the same design as the current Thales Academy at Flowers Plantation campus, with its modern, yet classical, aesthetic modeled after beauty and order, and large floor-to-ceiling glass windows that provide an abundance of natural light in all classrooms. A standalone gymnatorium of a similar aesthetic will also be built on the campus, and the new buildings will add a chemistry lab, a STEM/robotics/vocational arts lab, a weight room, and indoor volleyball and basketball courts to the campus facilities and amenities. All facilities will boast a beautiful, secure design, outfitted with the latest safety and security features, including controlled-access doors, security cameras, and background check systems for all visitors, as well as advanced HVAC units that provide up to 100% outdoor air for superior indoor air quality.
Rebecca Flowers, owner of Flowers Plantation, comments, “The Flowers community is very proud to have such an excellent, structured educational facility!”
