Joshua Percy Flowers
Joshua Percy Flowers moved to the area (now Flowers Plantation) in 1905, at the age of 2. He began purchasing land just east of Clayton, North Carolina in the early years of the Great Depression. This land was farming country, and was used as a cotton and tobacco plantation until the early 1980's.

The Flowers Tavern
This Tavern served as a meeting place for local folks from it's construction in the 1930's and 1940's. In 1986 it was reconstructed into a modern store with apartments on the 2nd floor. These apartments will eventually be converted into offices.

Joshua Percy Flowers & Delma Whitley
Joshua Percy Flowers married Delma Whitley and they settled in a small farm house near the Flowers' Homeplace on the farm.
Delma Flowers, wife of Joshua Percy Flowers was nicknamed "Dell". Today, her name is honored in the title of the Flowers Plantation development organization, River Dell Company.

Joshua Percy Flowers Jr., 1952
"Percy Jr." was Joshua Percy Flowers' only son. Tragically, he was killed in a private plane accident while attending law school at the University of North Carolina in 1952.

Joshua Percy Flowers & Hounds
The 4000 acres was a huge tobacco and cotton growing plantation from the 1930's to the 1970's. Mr. Flowers loved walker hounds and his love of hunting filled every free moment. At his death in 1982 there were over 300 walker hounds.
